Supporting AFT Federal Workers
The AFT has worked tirelessly with our three federal locals, including the Federation of Indian Service Employees, to resist the attacks on federal workers. FISE leaders and members have met with members of Congress, spoken to the media, and made it clear that attacks on federal workers are unacceptable. This work resulted in the Office of Personnel Management walking back its attack on probationary employees, and the Department of the Interior rehired many of them.
As of July 8, the Supreme Court has allowed the Trump administration to pursue mass federal government layoffs. FISE is continuing to educate members about the evolving federal situation. Visit the FISE website for the most up-to-date information about the fight for employees in the Department of the Interior.

Write a Letter to Congress: Tell your lawmakers: Honor our tribal treaties
On March 27, President Donald Trump signed an executive order stripping collective bargaining rights from hundreds of thousands of federal workers. The bipartisan Protect America’s Workforce Act would nullify Trump’s executive order and restore union rights for affected federal workers.
Urge your members of Congress to co-sponsor the Protect America’s Workforce Act and pass it without delay.

The Big, Ugly Betrayal
Trump’s so-called big, beautiful bill sells out working people to reward billionaires, offshore our jobs and gut the protections union members have fought for. Visit the AFT website for a full analysis of how Trump’s new law will affect you and your community.
The AFT is continuing to monitor special legislation sessions held to address state budget deficits resulting from these federal funding cuts.

DOGE
Elon Musk left the so-called Department of Government Efficiency on May 28, but it continues to wreak havoc in Washington, D.C. DOGE’s cuts have resulted in mass layoffs across the government and plunged several agencies into crisis. The AFT is committed to shining a spotlight on the work DOGE is doing to undermine government services.
