Medicaid funding is crucial to AFT members and the communities we serve. Access to healthcare is key for seeking and maintaining a job, but Congress is moving to cut Medicaid funding by hundreds of billions of dollars. These are not faceless individuals who will be impacted by these cuts, but:
- Students and adults with disabilities.
- Retirees.
- Forty percent of new babies.
- Nearly 1.6 million veterans and more than 2 million military-attached children.
- Workers receiving low wages.
- Millions of people on Medicare receiving supplemental support from Medicaid.
Hospitals rely on Medicaid payments to stay open and adequately staffed. Medicaid cuts could lead to staffing cuts, putting patients in unnecessary danger, closing essential services, and devastating communities.
